Therapy for Men

“You, as much as anybody in the universe, deserve your love and affection.”
– Buddha

2005053044Being a man in this culture is full of contradictions.

Men are supposed to take the initiative in creating romance but risk offending at every turn. As men, we should be providers, lovers, caretakers, and protectors but must not step on anyone’s toes.

Being strong and independent is essential to a man, but he also must be open to others’ ideas about how to live. We are supposed to be loving fathers but have few parental rights and no reproductive rights.

Men should be attentive to the feelings of others while remaining stoic and disconnected from their own emotions.

Where do your values fit in?

You’ve tried some things that don’t work.

Numbing yourself every night with booze or porn (women don’t want that!).

Giving in to end an argument only worsens things in the long run, and apologizing for winning it eats at your soul, doesn’t it?

Seeking help from female friends only sometimes helps. For instance, you ask a female friend how to show up on a date, and they have no idea how to court a woman. If you ask for advice about your relationship with your partner, it signals that you must be having an emotional affair. Right?

Confiding in your male friends suddenly makes you realize they’re in the same sinking boat!

It’s time to try something new.
